Description of Voyage

Group I:

Boatmaster : SAN A SANG

The exodus was organized by the boat-master who met the ECVII (Group III) just a few days before their departure in HO CHI MINH on 30-10-89. In order to arrange for a boat in China, eight of them (Group II) being led by the ECVII left two days earlier than the main group. The ECVII was paid 100,000 Dongs and allowed to join the exodus group. The main group of 34 led by the boatmaster arrived at HA NOI after a 3-day bus trip. Without rest, they proceeded to HA NINH via HÒN GAI and ƯA COI, Having paid 900,000 Dongs to a Vietnamese man, they were conveyed by a small boat to DONG XING (132) of China successfully without going through any check points on both sides. They reunited with Group II and III there but stayed in their own friends' and relatives' homes for one and a half month because they could not find a suitable boat. At last, one of boatmate's relative, uncle WONG (R), helped them to buy a Chinese motorized boat at a cost of RMB$12,000 at QI SIA (1). WONG sailed the empty

boat back to JIANG PING (LF- ) where all of them started the sea journey
