We have never suggested that third countries should have a role in implementing the Joint Declaration or should have a right to intervene in Hong Kong political situation.

But the economic

The Joint

interests of third countries in Hong Kong mean that they have a natural interest in Hong Kong's future stability. Declaration itself acknowledges that the prosperity of Hong Kong depends on maintaining its role as an international trade and financial centre. We shall therefore continue to take action we see fit to maintain international support for and confidence in Hong Kong during and beyond the transition period.
