Rule 58
This is an immigration matter: nothing to do with nationality.
Amendment to rules merely clarified situation:
does not mean any change in procedure.
In the first two months after the change of the
rules, 570 Hong Kong BDTCs were admitted as
returning residents, that is 90 more than in
the same period in 1989. Only one case of a
person losing his returning resident rights has
come to our notice.
I find these reassuring statistics. But of
course ready to look into further cases should
they come to our notice.
