Airport Project
Hong Kong Government have reached their
decision after careful examination of all the
options. Believe they have taken the right
decision.
Confident we can convince Chinese Government of
that. Important that we should meet Chinese
experts as soon as possible, either in Hong
Kong or Peking.
Relations with China
Have been impressed by importance people here attach to Britain having a good working relationship with China.
Of course Sino-British relations have had a bad
year.
But believe that the relationship is now back
on course. The JLG meets at the end of this
month. We want it to be a successful meeting.
I am determined to do all I can to see that
this process continues.
Britain's relationship with China important in
many ways, eg: airport, law and order, Vietnamese boat people. People want assurance
that there will be a smooth transition in 1997.
