Thank you for your letter of 7 November to Tristan Garel-Jones about the visit of Mr Brian Dempsey to Hong Kong and China. I am replying as this area falls within my Ministerial responsibilities.

We have informed the Senior British Trade

Commissioner in Hong Kong and the Commercial Counsellor in Peking of Mr Dempsey's visit and his request to call on them. They would, I am sure, be pleased to see Mr Dempsey and they and their staff will be ready to offer any assistance they can.
