The CPA's UK Branch has subsequently decided to organise a special one-week seminar in London during 1991, specifically for Hong Kong Parliamentarians, and they were therefore reluctant to include Hong Kong in the scheduled events. However, I managed to secure one place on the visit for Hong Kong. Several of the MP's present at the sub-committee meeting on 15 November asked about the date for direct elections to the Territory's Legislative Council next year. was unsighted but the point of the questions was to establish whether it would be possible to ensure that an elected Member of the Legislative Council would be selected for the visit. Last year a Hong Kong representative caused problems when he failed to take part in a large portion of the organised programme. If there is anything you can do to ensure the nomination of an appropriate and "reliable" candidate for 1991 it would help Hong Kong's case in subsequent years.
