The Office received one campaign that covered the age of entitlement to vote. It contained 335 names and advocated that the voting age should be lowered to 18 in 1988.

17.15 of the 77 other broad views expressed, there were various proposals such as imposing on candidates a residential requirement of at least 15 years in Hong Kong, or requiring them to meet certain educational criteria or to have previous experience of community service.
17.16 Other comments on the subject of eligibility for candidature included:
(a) barring members of triad societies from candidature to District Boards elections;
(b) excluding those with dual nationalities from candidature; and
(c) examination by the Government of the personal particulars of candidates for District Board
elections and subsequent public release of this information.
B. PUBLIC OPINION SURVEYS
17.17 This subject was not covered in the two surveys commissioned by the Office.
17.18 A total of four surveys conducted by or on behalf of other organisations covered this subject, of which one involved probability (random) sampling and three involved no such sampling.
17.19 The following table broadly summarises the findings of the survey involving probability (random) sampling, which targeted a specific population group with a sample size of 1 334 respondents.
