Dear Mr. Meyer,

On November 2 and 3, a week before the Prince and Princess of Wales begin their official visit, the Jimmy Young Programme will be broadcasting live from Hong Kong.

It is our intention to seek the views of a representative cross section of Hong Kong residents on the future of the Colony and what is likely to occur after 1997. We will also be looking at the plight of the Vietnamese boat people and how the issue of repatration may be resolved.

After we return to this country on November 6 we should like to offer the opportunity to the Secretary of State to appear on the programme to explain government policy towards the Colony.

I should be grateful if you could let me know as soon as possible if Mr. Major could fit this into his busy schedule. We would expect the interview to last for around 15 or 20 minutes which would give him ample time to discuss the issues raised during our visit.

Your help would be appreciated.

Best wishes,

вишит

John Gurnett, Senior Producer.
