SIR DAVID WILSON:

There's no

about

question, there's no suggestion

renegotiating the joint declaration

itself, that's the agreement between Britain

and China on the future of Hong Kong, signed

very good agreement,

in 1984.

incidentally,

It's

it goes into a great deal

of

detail, No question of trying to renegotiate

that.

What now is needed is that that is carried out

in practice in letter and in spirit. Things

like the basic law which is now being drafted,

the framework constitution for Hong Kong's

future, that that should reflect what's in the

joint declaration. We need other confidence-

building measures, we need a good relationship

with China to help to build up confidence

Hong Kong,

in

!
