In 1987, HMG and HKG agreed to expand the ambit of the existing Joint Funding Scheme to include the UK/HK Scholarship Scheme. As confirmed by your telno 3149 of 30 November 1987, HMG's annual contribution to the Scholarship Scheme was up to £125,000, made up of £40,000 from Foreign and Commonwealth Office Scholarship and Awards Scheme (FCOSAS) and up to £85,000 from the Sir S K Tang Bequest. HKG will match the UK contribution on a dollar for dollar basis by contributions from Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club (RHKJC). Following further deliberation, commitment from

The UK/HK Scholarship Committee, chaired by Mr Henry Litton, QC, is responsible for the selection of suitable candidates. Applications are invited openly in Hong Kong and UK through press releases. Suitable candidates are shortlisted for interviews conducted by the Committee and selection is based on academic merit and leadership qualities. Successful candidates are
