The maintenance cost

cost of one

of the Cemeteries,

viz the Stanley Military Cemetery, is shared between the

Commission and Hong Kong Government

The Commission's concerns

The Commission appeared to be concerned that,

while they could continue to count on the good faith of

the Hong Kong Government (HKG) to honour the present

arrangements, they were not

not sure whether they could place

similar reliance on the Hong Kong Special Administrative

Region Government (HKSARG). It became clear from the

exchanges between the Director General of the Commission

and DUS in November 1987 that the Commission would like to

see :

(a)

the Deeds of Appropriation under which the land

for the Cemeteries has been made available to the

Commission converted to long term, if not

freehold, leases; and
