RECOGNIZING the need of fair treatment for the traders who
have lawfully imported the African elephant ivory before
they are uplisted from Appendix II to I,
THE CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES TO THE CONVENTION
DECIDES to amend Resolution Conf. 5.11, adopted at is
fifth meeting in respect of African elephant ivory,
RECOMMENDS
(a)
(i)
that for the purposes of Article VII, paragraph
2, of the Convention, the date on which an ivory
item is acquired be :
the date of their initial removal from their
habitat, or
(11) the date
of
their
introduction to personal
possession, whichever date is earlier,
(b)
cannot do t

that the certificate referred to in Article VII,
paragraph 2, only be issued by a Management
Authority of an exporting country where it is
satisfied

listed in Appendix 1 of the Convention;
