Because of the import ban imposed in the meantime by EC member countries the worked ivory is stuck in Hong Kong.If the ivory had not temporarily left the EC it would now have been circulating in the community without restriction. MAED undertook to submit to Ministers recommending support for this exception to the ban and have asked me to find out for background what quantity and value of ivory is involved. I attach a draft telegram.
