Survivors' kits can be issued in accordance with BR 96 Appendix 17. Once these have been used up it will be necessary to use stocks of Loan Clothing or Cash Clothing.

b. Stocks of clothing can be held in a 'dump' near to the registration area. Alternatively, the registration team can telephone required items/sizes to the Stores staff if the demand for clothing is expected to be low.

34. Prepare to issue flags for use in ships' boats so that they can be identified clearly.

35. Towels and paper towels should be made available for issue and use at short notice.

36. The Stores staff should compile a running list of:

a. Clothing issued.

b. Stores (especially permanent items) which have been moved or removed from their normal locations within the ship.

37. Prepare to improvise body bags before bodies are moved to the mortuary. It may be possible to use mattress covers or black plastic sacks.

layers in order to avoid seepage.

MISCELLANEOUS ORGANISATIONAL POINTS

38.

Consider the security of portable fixtures and fittings in areas to be used by evacuees. For example, ship's trophies should be locked away in a storeroom.

39. Arrange for the allocation and identification of toilets and washing facilities for use by evacuees.

40. Allocate an area for baggage stowage. This could be the baggage dump used during the initial embarkation of evacuees or could be another area between decks if space allows.

Decide which compartment to use for a mortuary in case one should be needed. For example, it may be possible to use a Dairy Room by shifting the stores therein to a Fruit/Vegetable Room on a temporary basis.

42. When the ship goes to 'evacuation stations', the spare hands should be mustered in a central region so that they are available when needed.

43.

Evacuees would normally apply to their Embassy/Consulate at the port of disembarkation for financial assistance to get them home. However, in case evacuees ask for financial assistance from the ship, it helps to identify in advance the maximum amount of cash which could be spared from the ship's bulk stocks against personal receipts.
