28. Landing Parties. HM Ships can provide landing parties to assist evacuees in the vicinity of a port. In addition, an aircraft carrier (CVSA) (CVS/LPH), or Assault Ship (LPD) and Landing Ship Logistic (LSL) (see para 31) with troop lift helicopters, landing craft and possibly a Royal Marines (RM) Commando Group could be used to provide assistance in the concentration of evacuees. The Commando Group would also be able to provide armed protection should the situation demand it.
29. Medical. A doctor is normally carried in the ships listed in the table at Annex B Appendix 2 (serials 1-4) and also occasionally in other types of ships.
30. Spare.
ARMY
31. Communications. When Service resources are used in an evacuation, communication detachments will be made available to establish the links required by the UK forces, including those between diplomatic posts and the evacuation points. Additionally, channels may be provided within Service links to handle diplomatic and press external traffic. These detachments are detailed in each Part 2 plan (see Annex G).
32. Intelligence Support. A Military Intelligence Liaison Officer (MILO) should normally be despatched in advance of a force carrying out an SAE operation and will be made available to the Operational Commander once the force arrives if so directed by MOD. 640 Signal Troop (EW) may also be made available for deployment to the country concerned (see para 134).
33. Evacuee Handling. The Headquarters of the Armoured Recce Regiment based at Windsor is equipped to provide an Evacuee Handling Centre (EHC) (see para 60).
ROYAL AIR FORCE
34.
Route Activation. Route activation parties consisting of Operations, Engineering and Movements Staff may be required at each staging and reception airfield. The composition of these parties is detailed in the Joint Staff Table included with each Part 2 plan. There may also be a requirement for slip crews to be positioned at selected staging and/or reception airfields.
35. Aircraft. The following types of aircraft may be used in an evacuation operation:
