Central and Wan Chai Reclamation

Feasibility Study

1. Introduction

1.1

The purpose of this paper is to brief members generally on

the provisional findings of the above study and specifically on the preferred Outline Development Plan for

the reclamation.

2. Background

2.1 The Central and Wan Chai Reclamation Study commenced in

October 1987 and is scheduled to finish in June 1989. The consultants are now finalising the draft final report and preferred OUP which will be circulated to departments in

early April 1989 for comments.

The main objectives of the reclamation are the trunk road link from IEC to Rumsey Street, the provision of land for expansion of the CBD and making up short falls of open space and GIC facilities in the existing urban area.

A range of preliminary CLP's were prepared and assessed during the study which had different trunk road and land use configurations. ikese were reduced to two preferred

options :-

Option 1 with a long trunk road tunnel (2.4 km

long)

Option 38 with a shorter trunk road tunnel

(1.4 km long)
