Dear lande,
HONG KONG AND MACAO AFFAIRS OFFICE (HKMAO), MFA: PERSONALITY NOTES
1. I wrote to Chris Wood on 25 April enclosing a set of HKMAO personality notes. In that letter I promised to try and update the notes on a quarterly basis. Unfortunately, the events of the summer and our consequent limited contact with the MFA have prevented that
However, we have now been able to sit down and prepare a new set which I enclose. As before, any comments from yourself or copy addressees will be gratefully welcomed.
now.
2. There are five major changes, three deletions and two additions. Taking the deletions first, Zhang Yanban was posted to Geneva to join his wife (a rare sign of Chinese concern for marital bliss!). In the case of Shi Jicheng and Wang Wenquan, the MFA have told us that they have been reassigned. Our telno 1531 reported that Shi had anticipated his reassignment and where he would go. We do not know where Wang has gone. The two new additions are Chen Ziying and Cui Mingtang, who fill the long-vacant deputy director slots.
3.
In previous correspondence it was suggested that Graham Leicester might update the personality notes that we prepared for the Chinese JLG team in June 1988. Has anything happened on this?
Yours Ever
