Where a person nominated as a resident partner ceases to be a resident partner a foreign law firm should, within 14 days, notify the Society of this fact and, where necessary, provide particulars of the person to be nominated as resident partner in his place.
Notice of employment or taking into partnership of a
solicitor
5.6
A resident partner of a foreign law firm should within 14 days notify the Society of the name of any solicitor employed, or taken into partnership, by the foreign law firm under the proposed new provisions of the
Ordinance.
5.7
A solicitor should within 14 days notify the Society of the name of any foreign lawyer employed, or taken into partnership, by him under the proposed new provisions of the Ordinance.
5.8
Only a solicitor of not less than 10 years' standing should be eligible to enter into partnership in a foreign law firm.
5.9
A foreign law firm should not employ a solicitor of less than 5 years' standing to advise on Hong Kong law.
Ratio of solicitors and foreign lawyers
5.10
With the aim of ensuring that there is adequate supervision exercised in a foreign law firm over the practice of Hong Kong law by a solicitor and that responsibility is assumed at an appropriate level, any foreign law firm intending to practise Hong Kong law through a Hong Kong solicitor should have a Hong Kong solicitor as a partner who shall direct his full attention to the affairs of the firm, and there should be a ratio of one such partner for every three solicitors employed.
