In order to assist readers it is necessary to define certain terms used in this document.
context otherwise requires
Unless the
"Council" means the Council of the Law Society of
Hong Kong;
"domestic law firm" means a firm of Hong Kong
solicitors practising in Hong Kong;
"firm" includes a sole practitioner;
"foreign law firm" means a firm of foreign lawyers which may either be practising in Hong Kong and another jurisdiction or be practising in another jurisdiction and seeking to practise in Hong Kong;
"foreign lawyer" means a person who is only qualified to practise law in a jurisdiction other than Hong Kong, it does not refer to a person's race, nationality, citizenship, domicile or residence;
"Ordinance" means the Legal Practitioners Ordinance, Chapter 159;
"Society" means The Law Society of Hong Kong which is the governing and regulatory body for solicitors admitted to practise in Hong Kong;
"solicitor" means a solicitor admitted to practise law in Hong Kong under the Legal Practitioners Ordinance; and
"Registrar" means the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
