MR MARTIN LEE: I, Martin Lee, swear by Almighty God that
the evidence I shall give before this Committee shall be the
truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me
God.
CHAIRMAN:
Mr. Lee. Good morning, welcome. At your
insistance and request you have just taken an oath because
you wish to give your evidence on oath. That is not the
normal pattern before this Committee and not usually found
necessary. Could I begin by asking you simply why you felt it
necessary to take the oath this morning?
MR MARTIN LEE: Mr. Chairman, I am glad that you gave me
this permission to do so. I find it necessary because I
feel there is too much double talk in Hong Kong. People say
one version in private and say the opposite in public and as
I have not been elected by the people of Hong Kong, although
I care for them, I'd like to be at least answerable to God.
