FCO advised against Royal Visit because of fear of likely hostile reception in Hong Kong
Do not reveal details of advice given to Palace.
But was struck by Dame Lydia Dunn's statement that any Member of
the Royal Family would be very welcome to visit Hong Kong at any
time.
Believe this view is shared by most Hong Kong people.

The Foreign Secretary has said that he intends to visit Hong Kong around the turn of the year. No decision yet taken on precise date.
