FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE: REPORT ON HONG KONG: GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

1. I submit a draft interim reply to the Foreign Affairs Council

Report on Hong Kong. It has been cleared as appropriate with the

Departments inside the office and with other Whitehall Departments.

We have consulted the Cabinet Office, who have said that they do not

wish to approve the draft response.

2. We have agreed with the Committee that the reply will be

published on 1 December. To meet this deadline, PRU will need to

have a final approved text to send to the printers by Monday

20 November, in accordance with the timetable set out in

Miss Bailey's minute of 8 November.
