We are as you know working urgently with the Home office
on a nationality package, details of which will be
announced as soon as possible. In advance of this, it
would be impossible for us to give a substantive response
to the Committee's recommendations on nationality, which
are of course a central element in the Report. Moreover,
the new Foreign Secretary and his Ministerial colleagues
would like a little more time to familiarise themselves
with the other substantial issues before reaching any
firm conclusions about the Committee's recommendations.
In Confidence
We are therefore aiming to publish our response in
the autumn, before Parliament reconvenes. I would be
grateful for confirmation that this would be acceptable.
