TRANSCRIPT C: SELECT COMMITTER ON HONG KONG

12 JUNB 1989

-16-

MR. TEMPLE-MORRIS:

Yes, indeed!

Coming now, as it were,

beneath the 3.25 million or

beneath the one million-odd that actually have British

passports, as I understand it, towards categories and

following the so far public announcement of the British

Government which indicates that there is a pretty rapid

review going on and that there is some action

contemplated,

I will come to the specifics in a moment, but in

Hong Kong terms I should preface it by Just asking you

this: in Hong Kong terms, how important is it that we DOW

do something and how much more important is it now rather

than, say, two months ago?

SIR DAVID VILSON;

In my judgement, it is very important to do

something now.

It was highly desirable when I last appeared before

the Committee; it is now,

highly desirable

I think, much more than just

it is very important.
