Let us wind up this general section, if we may, by

seeking from you an actual statistic: how many people in

Hong Kong are eligible for British Dependent Territory

passports or BHO passports? How many actually bold a

BDTC or BNO passport and, finally, how many of these are

non-Chinese?

TIM RESTON:

The answer to the first is three-and-a-quarter

adlion and the same auswer applies potentially to the

second because there is no reason why every BDTC in Hong

Kong should not, if they wish, convert to a BNO passport,

but as you would know, Mr.Chairman, that has to be done

before 1 July 1997 and speaking from memory I cannot for

the moment lay my finger on the statistic

at this stage applied for BNO passports.
