right of abode in the UK through either parent or grand-

parent and the remaining 400 out of the 1800 became BIDCS.

The British Nationality Falkland Islands Act of 1983

conferred British citizenship on this small number of 400

and it must said that it was done by the House in

confirmation of the relationship of the Islanders with the

UK following the hostilities with Argentina, but it is of

course against the background of the total number of 1800,

1400 had already acquired British citizenship through

descent as a result of the BHA Act of 1981.
