The basic qualification for US citizenship is five years as a permanent resident. After lawful admission he/she must reside in the US continuously for at least 5 years and in that time he/she must not be absent for a continuous period of more than one year and
for a total of more than 30 months. In order to qualify for US citizenship applicants must also be over 18 years of age and meet requirements relating to good character and commitment to the US.
12. Investment and residence in the united States gives a businessman no avenue to citizenship however long his residence.
