PROVISIONS ON SELECTION OF FIRST CHIEF EXECUTIVE NOT SATISFACTORY

The draft Basic Law provides that an election committee of Hong Kong residents shall recommend a candidate selected through local consultation/election/or appointment by the CPG.

Clearly desirable that the process for the selection of the first Chief Executive should command confidence in Hong Kong. We shall play our part in ensuring that the Chinese authorities are made fully aware of the views expressed in Hong Kong over this

issue.
