Sir,

1000 82

I have for some time been disturbed at the effect which articles in the press and elsewhere might have on the reputation of the Hong Kong Judiciary.

After much thought I have decided that, in spite of my personal circumstances, the proper course is for me to offer my resignation to you, as I have done already to the Chief Justice on earlier occasions.

Having discussed the matter with him, and followed his advice, I would like to tender my resignation from 1st January, 1989, or such later date as is necessary to ensure that I receive the benefits of the new pensions legislation, which is intended to enhance the pensions of judges, on the terms set out in the Schedule to this letter.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Excellency's obedient servant,

James

Barke

(D.A. Barker)

Justice of Appeal
