HK BC will reach its planned capacity of 3,000 fte students by 1989. A nearby site at Renfrew Road will be available after 1991 to accommodate 2,000 more students. is proposed that HK BC should be permitted in

Phase III

III providing up to the planned maximum capacity of 10,100 by the turn of the century. The Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club project team in charge of campus construction has advised that, since contracts for Phases I and II will be let

let in the second half of 1988, an early decision on

on Phase

Phase III will enable the construction of the Phase III infrastructure with potential savings. We accept this advice, particularly as the additional 3,100 fte students will

will concentrate on science and technology which will benefit Hong Kong most. It is recommended that Phase III should formally be approved for planning purposes.

Part-time Degree Programme at CUHK

12

This programme was introduced in 1982 in response to a request by the Government for mature students outside the target age group of 17 to 20 years. It now comprises Business Administration, Chinese and English, Music, and Social Work. The enrolments have not been counted towards the student number targets. As the programme has now become an established feature of CUHK activities, it is recommended that it should be regarded as a standard institutional activity, with the student number subsumed in CUHK's targets as from the 1991-94 triennium.
