it is the intention of SMS, as the statutory authority under the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance, to withdraw the declaration of the Ohel Leah Synagogue as a Proposed Monument. The detailed arguments for and against the lifting of the declaration are summarised at Annex.

In announcing his decision, the SMS will brief the

AAB and the press on the background of this case and the

reasons for the decision.
