Proposed reconstruction of Synagogue enables provision of enhanced facili- ties in the building to meet with modern day comfort and safety requirements.

Not entirely correct. It is understood that there are sufficient funds within the Trust to meet the cost for complying with the D-Notice. However, there will not then be much left for other community expenses, including those for maintenance of the Synagogue and Club activities. The question of priority must strictly be the Jewish community's internal affair.
The legal title of the land is vested in the Trustees. In granting approval to the Section
ard 16 application, Town Planning emphasized the need to respect the rights of the legal holders of an unrestricted Crown lease. From past experience, ExCo always insisted on the owner's consent having been obtained before any private building is declared a monument.
