REFUGEES

I attach a letter from the Home Office about the forthcoming meeting between Mr Renton and Lord Chitnis. The meeting will largely cover domestic refugee issues, but the Home Office have asked for briefing on aid to Vietnam and refugees in Hong Kong.

2.

I should be grateful for a short brief that we can forward to the Home Office. As the former FCO Minister responsible for South-East Asia, Mr Renton will require little background and the brief can therefore be short: perhaps a short up-date and a few points to make based on the British Refugee Council's main concerns.

3. In view of the uncertainty of the FCO content of this meeting, I would be happy to attend rather than ask geographical departments to

do so.
