(b) SIR S.Y. CHUNG'S VALEDICTORY
as this was the last meeting
The Governor said that as
of the Council which he would chair in
he would chair in the presence of
Sir S.Y. Chung as a Member, he wished to pay warm tribute
to Sir S.Y.'s immense contribution to Hong Kong. Sir
S.Y. Chung had been a Member of the Council for 16 years
and its Senior Member for eight years. He had served in
LegCo for ten years,
ten years, including four years as a Senior
Member. Throughout these years, he had worked to Hong
Kong with extraordinary dedication and devotion. The
Council would particularly wish to pay tribute to Sir
S.Y. Chung's courage, work and leadership during the
difficult time when the future
future of Hong Kong was being
negotiated. This achievement had earned Sir S.Y. high
esteem both inside and outside Hong Kong.
The Governor said that he was very sorry indeed to
lose Sir S.Y. Chung as a Senior Member of the Council.
However, he was very glad that Sir S.Y. would continue to
serve Hong Kong after his retirement as Chairman of the
Provisional Hospital Authority. As with other difficult
tasks undertaken by Sir S.Y., the Governor was sure that
he would carry this one through to a successful
conclusion.
Sir S.Y. Chung said that it had been a privilege and
an honour to have served Hong Kong for 23 years on the
two Councils.
