1989 European Elections
10. The EP approved the recommendation contained in the Klepsch (Germany, Christian Democrat) report to hold next year's European Parliament elections in the period 8-11 June. Prag (UK, EDG) argued that this period was too close to the local government elections in May, and warned that the voter turn-out might be low if the elections were held on 8 june. An EDG amendment in this sense, bidding for 15-18 June, was heavily defeated.

this was acceptable also to the Commission although he agreed with the European Democratic Group that a 24-month (as opposed to a 36-month) period of implementation would have been preferable.

13. The two Banotti (Ireland, Christian Democrat) reports were adopted, approving the Commission's proposals subject to the deletion of a recital relating to the addition of citric acid to fruit juice. Lord Cockfield said that this amendment was not only acceptable but desirable, since citric acid was no longer used.
