Your circular letter HKC 031/25 of 29 Septemberrefes. I am sorry you did not receive an answer from my predecessor to your earlier one.
I do believe there is. value in us receiving this kind of material on Hongkong and the JLG meetings, and not just because I happen to take a keen interest myself, having been part of the HKD team in 1982 84! The Koreans right now are extremely interested in anything to do with China, and helped along by China's participation in the Seoul Olympics, they are optimistic that the until recently almost non existent relationship will before long blossom into something much more significant. Thus events in Hongkong and the way in which the Chinese approach the talks are instructive to Korean officials, in the trade field as well as to the Foreign Ministry. It is well known that staff at the Korean Consulate General in Hongkong follow these things particularly closely.
I shall shortly be calling on the Asian Division of the MFA here and will go armed with your latest briefing. If I get any interesting feedback I will let you know.
ever,
Your
Wanich Mo
Mr. S.E. Bradley, DPA Hongkong. Mr. D. Martin, UKREP JLG Hongkong. Mr. C.O. Pigot, Peking.
