6. The next firm plan is for Lord Glenarthur to attend the South Pacific Forum Meeting in Kiribati on 10-14 July, coupled with his next visit to Hong Kong. There may be scope to include one other country, possibly in the South Pacific, on this trip.

7. There is thus nothing proposed for May or June, but Lord Glenarthur should certainly be able to fit in one, or

I should welcome your possibly two, trips during this period. views on priorities. Options which occur to me (with dates of Lord Glenarthur's previous visits in brackets) include:

Sri Lanka, subject of course to political developments and the Secretary of State's own views.

Nepal (March 1988).

Vanuatu.

Korea (February 1988).

Philippines (September 1987).

Papua New Guinea (October 1987).

Bhutan, if there is a case for developing our relationship through a Ministerial visit.

Solomon Islands.

Burma, subject again to political developments.

The next clear proposal is for Lord Glenarthur to visit China, Mongolia and (principally on OED business) Moscow on around 11-29 September. Mr Cooper is already looking at the options. I shall be writing shortly to Sir A Donald to seek his views.

9. Apart from India/Pakistan in October, there should be scope for one further visit before the end of the year. possibility would be for Lord Glenarthur to open the new Embassy building in Manila, which I understand should be ready in November. But we will clearly need to look at the options somewhat nearer the time.
