RELATIONS WITH PARLIAMENT: CONTACTS WITH MPS

1. Your minute of 10 October.

2.

From the earlier list of possible topics for

Lord Glenarthur should be deleted Hong Kong and India, which were done earlier in the year.

3.

All the other suggestions remain valid. To them might be added the following:

a) the environment, which we would need to launch this as a co-production with the Department of the Environment, if they agree that this would be a good venture;

b) space, on which the co-operation of the DTI and BNSC will

be needed;

c) Vietnamese boat people in Hong Kong (although this might

need to be reconsidered in the light of developments on the repatriation policy);

d) Japan;

e) any one of a number of live topics, subject to developments

over the next months, ie Afghanistan; Pakistan; Sri Lanka; Burma.

4. Priorities for the remainder of this year strike me as Cambodia and, if the Department of the Environment share our enthusiasm, environmental issues.
