TARGETED DRINKS PARTY FOR PARLIAMENTARIANS

1.

I have now discussed this proposed get-together with David Reddaway and David Drake (PRU) and the picture is now much clearer.

The party will be held in Lord Glenarthur's office on Wednesday 27 April.

Around 35 guests could be accommodated in the space available.

The guests should have an interest in foreign affairs, and Lord Glenarthur's intention is to introduce Hong Kong in general terms to those backbenchers who are not aware of the intricacies of Hong Kong internal affairs.

David Reddaway said that the guests should be drawn from all sides of the House and should include some members of the House of Lords. He did suggest several names which I have included in the primary list.

David Drake said that the number of MPs likely to turn-up will depend on what is scheduled to take place in the House on 27 April. In any event, he said, it is usual for only about 30% of invited MPs to actually attend a function. We should therefore invite around one hundred odd to ensure that around thirty or

attend.
