RELATIONS WITH PARLIAMENT : TARGETED DRINKS PARTIES

1. During the last Parliament Ministers held regular targeted drinks parties for Members of Parliament. The purpose of these was to brief groups of interested MPS, on an all party basis, on a wide range of FCO geographical and functional responsibilities. They were normally held at about 6.00 pm but it has been suggested that in future they might also take place over informal sandwich lunches in Ministers' offices.

2. The Secretary of State has agreed that these should now be reinstated on a regular basis and I therefore attach a list of possible subjects, compiled with the assistance of departments, which Lord Glenarthur might consider suitable for such functions. Dependant upon other demands on the Minister's time, the aim should be to hold at least one function a month.

3.

The organisation of each function will be the responsibility of departments but PRU will be happy to provide assistance, particularly in the compilation of guest lists, where required.
