While we were considering the implications of the

examining their proposals.
are sympathetic towards their
request and are responding to it quickly. It is likely that
we will recommend an increase in financial assistance for
the College. I hape that we shall be able to make
recommendations to this effect within the next few weeks..

Sir, on 1 June, the College made a further
separate request for it to be included in the University and
(UPGC)
role of the
Polytechnic Grants Committee system. This proposal has considerable implications for the longer-term role
College. It will require careful consideration
consultation with the UPGC. However sympathetic we may be

the College and
llege and however energetically we follow up its
proposals, it will inevitably be some time before firm
conclusions can be reached. I think it would be misleading
if I tried to suggest otherwise.
