ction of foreign expertise, despatch of post graduates, holding of training courses and workshops, and purchasing of necessary advanced equipment. Since 1978, through the channel of World Health Organization, China has sent 487 fellows abroad and organized approximately 100 study tours and quite a number of Chinese medical professionals have participated in various accademic meetings, training courses and workshops in other coun- tries. Meanwhile, we have held in our country international seminars and training courses on primary health care, and special training courses on expanded programme of immuni- zation, diarrhea diseases and cardiovascular diseases. We have conducted 56 international training courses on accupuncture and moxibustion with over 1,200 participants from 100 countries and regions of the five continents.
With the exchange and cooperation between governments and peoples, we have enhanced our friendship with the peoples and medical colleagues in other countries, and have introduced into China new technology and equipment, and trained a contingent of technical personnel in health service and scientific research.
Health services in China constitute one of the important components of socialist con- struction. We are presently endeavouring to bring about a new situation of all-round deve- lopment in our socialist modernization. With further emancipation of minds and further implementation of the policy of opening to the outside world and invigorating domestic economy, it is imperative to accelerate comprehensive reform in health work, strengthen both urban and rural health services, speed up personnel training and improve the quality of medical and health service so as to achieve modernization of medical science and render better service to the people in their health care as well as to socialist modernization.
