NW28, from Bangkok to Tokyo, reported No.1 engine shutdown and diverted to Hong Kong;
An alert message was received from Singapore regarding loss of contact with KE 686, from Singapore to Seoul. The aircraft re-established contact with Manila subsequently.
Full Emergency procedures were carried out on 22 September when CX289, from Hong Kong to Frankfurt, reported No. 4 engine shutdown due to uncontrollable power surge and returned to Hong Kong. The aircraft landed safely after midnight.

Training

Six Student Aeronautical Communications Officers (SACO) of Class No.1 and 3 SACO of Class No.2 commenced the Stage I on-the-job training on 5 July and on 27 September respectively.

In preparation for the implementation of the new 3-letter designator system on 25 October, as stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization, 6 conversion training courses were conducted for 66 Aeronautical Communications Supervisors and Officers between July and August.
45.
Four Operational Refresher Courses were conducted for 40 Aeronautical Communications Officers II in September.
Proficiency Check
46.
Radiotelephony Proficiency Checks were conducted for 12 Aeronautical Communications Officers II.
