Dr Blix briefed the Legco ad hoc group on the Daya Bay project about his recent trip to China, where he had visited a reactor now
under construction in Qinshan.
He said that the type of nuclear reactor to be built in the Daya
Bay plant was well-known in technology and that such reactors were commonly used in France.
Dr Blix added that the IAEA was ready to send a team to monitor the operational safety of the Daya Bay plant should the Chinese authorities make such a request.
