MR HO: If that is the case, what is the reason to expand the garment making workshop in the CSI to such a capacity that we discover now that three out of five disciplinary services require made-to-measure uniforms instead of the normal ?
S for S: I think you would be getting into an area where
the marginal cost really would make it unprofitable because
you would need to employ an army of tailors. We are talking about in the police, if my memory serves me correctly, 25,000;

CCS: Six thousand.
S for S: Six thousand. Well, Correctional Services, all
right. Customs and Excise, what is their disciplined
--
six thousand probably. Immigration, well, my memory is very bad,
I think it is about ten thousand. Anyway, let's say we are talking
about 40 to 50 thousand individuals and their uniforms. I mean you would need an army of tailors to link the individuals with the basic 20 workshop which because of the type of labour it was using would be
21 slow.

MR HO:
Yes, but the question really is, then why expand ?
S for S:
Why expand the workshop ?

S for S:
Yes, why expand the workshop ?
Because there are a lot of other types of garments
30 that can be made for the Government that don't have to look as
31
perfect as the uniforms of the disciplined services.
The

Correctional Services are already producing for twenty departments.
They can get more business, I am sure.

MR HO:

I see. If you don't expand the services, then you
cannot cover those departments who require non-made-to-measure ?
