MR CHAN:
Another question I would ask the Commissioner
is, whether adequate measures have been taken to establish whether CSI
3 would be able to sell all the shoes it could produce after the '86
4 workshop expansion programme is completed.

CCS:
We are confident that the shoes that we will
make when the plant is commissioned will meet the required standards
of the user departments. The standards have been assured by independent
laboratories such as the British Standards Institute and I am confident
we will get the orders. We will never, at the moment, fill up the spare capacity of the plant but we are always striving to it and we are 12 looking to every department. Every Government officer wearing a
uniform pair of shoes, we want to know where it is made or where they
have been made, and we are looking to take over that order and our men
are continually going to departments looking for orders.

MR CHAN:
And also whether the largest user, the Royal Hong Kong Police Force, has confirmed they will accept CSI manufactured shoes, assuming that the shoes will meet the required
standards and specifications.
CCS:
They have not confirmed this, sir, but I
think that as we will be able to produce a shoe of the required
standard, and of the required materials, there is no reason why they
should not purchase from us. We have to take some commercial risks.
MR CHAN:
Have you plans to expand into these moulded
28 or leather sole shoes making?
