What should I do if I disagree with the Government's offer of com-
pensation?
You should discuss the matter with and obtain advice from the Estate Surveyor concerned of the Buildings and Lands Department at the Special Duties Office at Lok Fu.
In certain specific circumstances (see pages 9 and 10), Government would be prepared to reimburse you for reasonable costs of engaging profes- sional surveyors, valuers or accountants to act on your behalf in such negotiations.
In the event that agreement cannot be reached, you could refer the matter to the Assessment Review Board for an assessment. The Terms of Reference of the Assessment Review Board is at Appendix II.
When will I get Letter of Offer of compensation and rehousing?
It is the intention of Government to carry out the clearance in phases over a period up to 1990/1991. Offer letters for the initial phase will be issued in late December 1987. As well over 3000 letters are involved, they will have to be issued in batches for operational reasons. Inevitably some may therefore receive the offer letters earlier than others.
When will I be paid?
The details of this will be set out very clearly in the offer letters. Generally, you will be offered a portion of your total compensation prior to moving out from the Walled City and the balance will be released upon vacation of the premises.
