questior of power supply, pointing to the completion of the Shajiac Power Plant and the significant additional

supply expected from the projects under constructior.

It was reported that the rotational system of power supply to factories in Shenzher would по longer be

necessary as from August this year. Although the power

supply problem in Shenzhen appears to have been

alleviated in the short term, in the long term

electricity demand would depend very much on the pace of

future economic growth and industrial development there.

Port Development

7.2.1

In general, the limited informatior obtained did not add much to the already known information on development of

port facilities in the Pearl River. The provision of small tonnage berths in Yantian in the medium and short

term again

again confirms that previous assumption that it

will offer little relief to Hong Kong over the period.

However, the findings of the feasibility study of the port in Yantian to ascertain its development potential

would be significant for long term planning of port

facilities in Long Kong.*(see also para.7.5.3)

7.2.2 No particular information obtained would cause long Kong

to crange direction in its cwn planning for port

facilities. It seems that economic growth in Guangdong

and Shenzhen will continue and that both areas will

continue to use the port of hong Kong for many of their

exports, imports and transhipment provided that its

facilities can cope with demand. This forecast demand

has already cen taken into consideration in the Port

Development Strategy Study. The continued role of long

Kong as ત port for much of South China seems to be

confirmed. is such, our planning should continue in the
