7.1.6 Shenzhen officials seem tc
be
more relaxed on the
questior of power supply, pointing to the completion of the Shajiac Power Plant and the significant additional
supply expected from the projects under constructior.
It was reported that the rotational system of power supply to factories in Shenzher would по longer be
necessary as from August this year. Although the power
supply problem in Shenzhen appears to have been
alleviated in the short term, in the long term
electricity demand would depend very much on the pace of
future economic growth and industrial development there.
Port Development

In general, the limited informatior obtained did not add much to the already known information on development of
port facilities in the Pearl River. The provision of small tonnage berths in Yantian in the medium and short
term again
again confirms that previous assumption that it
will offer little relief to Hong Kong over the period.
However, the findings of the feasibility study of the port in Yantian to ascertain its development potential
would be significant for long term planning of port
facilities in Long Kong.*(see also para.7.5.3)

facilities. It seems that economic growth in Guangdong
and Shenzhen will continue and that both areas will
continue to use the port of hong Kong for many of their
exports, imports and transhipment provided that its
facilities can cope with demand. This forecast demand
has already cen taken into consideration in the Port
Development Strategy Study. The continued role of long
Kong as ત port for much of South China seems to be
confirmed. is such, our planning should continue in the
