Although the depth

depth of the navigation channel is a

corstraint of huangpu pert capacity at present, dredging

of the channel to achieve a minimum depth of -11.5m has

been planned in conjunction with Xin Sha development.

Dredging of channel to the south-west of Lantau was

planned by Huangpu port Authority to enable ocean-going

vessels to avoid a Han Channel (Hong Kong).

Burngpu port is linked up with Kowloon-Canton Railway,

and will be linked up with the new Guangzhou-Shenzhen

Super-highway. Xin Sha Port will also be linked to this

super-highway.

6.3.7 The development of Yantian for deep water berths has yet

to undergo pre-feasibility study. Only the development

of 2 berths capable for handling 3000 to 5000 tonnes is

definite. Feeder railway line is also proposed to link

up Yantian and Pinghu.

Airport

6.4.1

Chiwan Port is capable for berthing vessels up to 35,000

tonnes. Dredging at 3-year intervals is required. Το

facilitate port development railway line is proposed to

link up Shekou and Buji.

The Guangdong authorities confirmed that construction of

a civilian airport at Shenzhen has been approved by the

state council. It would mainly provide domestic service.
